XGSET vs. BASE
ExGate Limited serves UK prisoners both inside prison and outside prison in the community.
XGSET (ExGate Self-Employment Training) is an in-gate self-employment training course that is only available to prisoners in custody. It is delivered via direct face-to-face or distance-learning formats.
Training is provided by way of separate service contracts between ExGate Ltd and participating prison establishments – but this will only happen if such contracts are in place, which is not guaranteed as all service contracts are separately tendered.
BASE (Beating Adversity through Self-Employment) is an ex-gate self-employment training course that is only available to prisoners who are no longer in custody.
It is mostly available through direct course registration by ex-prisoners in the community (or by their families, on their behalf).
However, if a service contract exists between ExGate Ltd and a participating prison establishment or probation region, the cost of the course can be covered under the contract for named prisoners leaving custody, saving them the cost of registration – but this will only happen if such a contract is in place, which is not guaranteed as all service contracts are separately tendered.
